We flew from Athens to Santorini for our second leg of the vacation and had a most interesting experience at the Athens Airport.
We checked in at the Aegean Airlines counter with a very helpful and friendly person and started toward our gate. Like any experience traveler, we knew not to get any coffee or water before we cleared security. So we get to our first security checkpoint with a few uniformed people with our passports and boarding passes ready. But they just waved us in. Didn’t even glance at our documents. What??? This is security??? Wow, are they trusting or plain naive?!!!!
So thinking that was that, I got a coffee, Diet Coke for Bill and 2 bottles of water for Colleen and me, which came to about 8 Euros and proceeded to our gate. And there was the “real” security check point with X-ray machine. At that time I had to get rid of all our drinks and got our carry-ons scanned and the security wanted to see (more like glance) our boarding passes. But, alas, Colleen & I had lost our husbands along the way and they didn’t have passports or boarding passes with them. So we frantically tried to find them through glass walls so we could pass their boarding passes to them but couldn’t find them. That was because they just breezed in and were sitting down behind us! Security let them pass without ANY documents! It was as if we had traveled back in time before Yasser Arafat & the Palestinians made hijacking popular!
